IMPORT EXPORT

Food is now more than means of survival, it plays an important cultural role in our lives. It is a way we stay connected to our cultural roots and is one of the many bridges that binds together different cultures. IMPORT EXPORT tells the story of our South East Asian roots and shares a piece of our culture through Asian snacks. It is a collection of memories and personal experiences of Asian snacks from Asians, and also people of other ethnicities. The result creates conversations and an exchange of culture and perspectives.

IMPORT EXPORT pays tribute to the vernacular aesthetics of Asian packaging and shines light on the everyday objects commonly found in Asian supermarkets and night markets. It is a reflection of the overlooked beauty; the bright and the loud, and the visuals associated with our culture. The collection consists of a publication, a zine, a guide to Asian snacks, a map of where you can buy them in Wellington, a set of stickers inspired by fruit stickers, and a t-shirt.

Packaged together in a takeaway-inspired box, this can essentially be seen as a gift of our culture to you!
